Ed Burak owned and operated the Connoisseur Pipe Shop on Avenue of the Americas at the corner of 51st in New York from 1968 to 2009 where he sold pipes of his own design.

A creator, graduate from the School of Visual Arts, and an artist with a keen eye for form,

Initial design concepts and studies in form and shape

he would leave the actual carving to other pipe makers such as Tony Passante.

He would sell from his own workshop as well as a mail order catalog

"The diffence between art and not art," said Burak, "is ethics. In every great work of art you see ethics ... the quality is there because it should be there." Chuck Stanion, “Fine Art,” Pipes and tobaccos magazine, Vol.3, No.1, Spring 1998
