Victorian Mother & Child
Isn't she lovely? A Victorian-era mother and child, perhaps?
But the attention-grabber are the locks, the tresses so finely carved that they appear to be real. The bowl is 8" in height, and with the tapered, square amber push stem, the overall length is 16.5." That's what makes a fine, collectible pipe.
It was Lot 68 at Christie's, South Kensington, London, auction on 14/10/80, that sold for 3,300 British pounds (about $6,600 in that day, or in a 2015 dollar equivalent, $19,800).
